Dear members of the Kovaluk Dental Centre,

It is my greatest pleasure to express my sincere gratitude to all of you for being part of our dental team. In May 2007, I celebrated the 20th anniversary of my dental career. Without you and my primary dental team members, this incredible journey would not have been possible.

My team and I have great plans for the next 20 years. I am taking this opportunity to celebrate and involve all of you in the creation of a great future. To begin, I will provide some facts about the last 20 years of my career, then describe some ideas for the years to come.

I graduated from McGill University's School of Dentistry in May of 1987 and immediately began my military commitment with the Canadian Armed Forces. Here I worked as a dentist in Ottawa for 3 years, during which I received extensive specialty-related training in periodontics. This hands-on training gave me the necessary knowledge and confidence to perform various types of gum surgeries. From this course, I moved on to further hands-on training in oral surgery. This experience gave me the training needed for extraction of complicated wisdom teeth.

When my commitment with the military was over, I started my quest towards training in cosmetic dentistry by joining the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry in 1992. I also took further courses in endodontics (root canals). This gave me the required skills to do most of the root canal treatments that my patients needed.

In 1995 I started my education in orthodontics, which led me into education of temporo mandibular dysfunctions (TMDs). This enabled me to treat myself from excruciating and debilitating headache pain, which had progressed to levels of constant 3-4 day pain periods on a weekly basis. The quest to cure myself forced me to aggressively pursue knowledge of cranial and neuromuscular dentistry. This led to my completion of advanced studies at the Las Vegas Institute for Advanced Dental Studies (LVI), which is recognized worldwide as a premium educational facility for dentists.

As I am sure you can appreciate, 20 years in the pursuit of excellence has transformed my professional life. It has taught me that there is no end to the pursuit of excellence, and it is my plan to continue to grow in that direction for the following 20 years. My team and I have just completed a course on excellence in service in the dental practice. I have the most incredible team of professionals, and we are all committed to being unbeatable in service and treatment for our patients.

In order to achieve our goals, I must concentrate my efforts in providing the specialized dental treatments I have been developing for the last 20 years. I know there are many wonderful general dentists in our city, and in my humble opinion, one of the best is Doctor Huda Abu-Jarad. She is young and eager to serve, and has committed herself to us for the next 3 years. She will serve all of our clients with their general needs and will continue to follow the Ontario Dental Association's general fee guide. I will provide most of the specialty type treatments and therefore most of your needs will be met all under one roof. This will eliminate the need for transferring to a separate dental facility for specialized treatments which in turn will save you time and money.

I will take this time to thank you for all of your personal referrals and ask you to honour us further by continuing to actively refer your family members and friends to us. We know that you only want the best for your loved ones and we accept your referrals with great pride. We promise to treat your loved ones with our highest level of service and treatment.

There is one aspect of our service routine that must change in order to continue towards our goal of excellence. We will no longer be accepting insurance payments directly. Patients will be required to pay for their appointments in full and receive reimbursement personally. However, we will continue to process the required paperwork for you, including estimates and all other claims.

We will be continuing to give 5-10% discounts on large prepaid dental treatments. Additionally, we promise to always inform you of all of your ideal dental treatment needs in order to assist you in making the best and most informed decisions you can. Complete and well explained information helps you to put your health and well being first.

Please call us immediately with your e-mail, pager, cell phone or personal data device numbers. We are currently beginning to implement a highly efficient appointment confirmation service that will send you reminder messages. This system is more reliable and will replace our current system of telephone calls and voice messages.

Lastly, I am thrilled to inform you of my latest exiting idea and plan. I have chosen not to rent out the downstairs space in order to create the sanctuary. This will be a beautiful facility with holistic treatments, spiritual enlightenment, meditation, infra-red sauna, yoga and Pilates. Through all of my amazing cruise travels, some of the best and most peaceful moments were spent in meditation in the sanctuary.
